Source: Hand harvested from the home vineyard blocks planted in 1989 and 1996

Cabernet Clones:  SA125 (70%), G9V3 (20%) and LC7 (10%)

Winemaking Notes: This vintage sees the introduction of approximately 5% of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot, co-fermented in one barrel and blended into the final wine at bottling.  Wholly destemmed and open pot fermented with daily hand plunging.  After cold-soaking for a couple of days fermentation started naturally.  Cultured yeasts were later added to complete the ferment.  The wine spent a further two weeks macerating on skins before being pressed to a combination of French oak barriques and hogsheads, 30% of which were new.  Bottling occurred following 18-months in oak.

Wine Characteristics:  Displaying all the characteristics of the fine Yarra Valley Cabernet style. Finestra’s Cabernets are built for the cellar and also provide drinking pleasure from around three years after vintage.

"Red and black fruits, baking spice, plenty of perfume, violet and pencils, and gee, it's a beautiful smelling wine and there's a slight varietal roast red capsicum/pimento thing that adds rather than detracts. It's medium-bodied, plenty of fleshy tannin grip, acidity is bright and crisp, and the finish is long and gently chewy, with tobacco and floral perfume trailing. Essence of YV Cabernet. It's such a strong release, and best since the 2017. I'm thinking either 94 or 95 points, though the longer I spend time with it, the more it pushes me towards the higher score.
